As a man who only partly knew his own origins, who was abandoned by his father and neglected by his mother, deep defining relationships held a certain mystery.

These shows close fastest first — work the list in order. Cluster by neighborhood: the downtown stops (Chinatown, Two Bridges, Lower East Side, Tribeca, SoHo) are all walkable from the F train at East Broadway. Chelsea's C/E to 23rd handles the Chelsea closers. Plan a Saturday — most galleries close Sundays or open shorter hours.
