"If the Abstract Pictures show my reality, then the landscapes … show my yearning." —Gerhard Richter, 1981 David Zwirner presents an exhibition of Gerhard Richter's celebrated photorealist landscape paintings from the 1960s to the 2000s, displayed alongside a considered selection of works from his series of Abstrakte Bilder (Abstract Paintings, 1976–2017).

2. Open Color by Francine Tint at A Hug From The Art World

Open Color is at A Hug From The Art World, 515 W 19th St, Chelsea, on view Apr 30 – Jun 14, 2026. A Hug From The Art World is pleased to present Francine Tint: Open Color. Tint has been painting for over half a century, remarkably her work only came to my attention as recently as August last year. By golly, how glad I am that introduction took place, what a gift! Shortly after 10 am on August 20th, 2025, an email arrived in my inbox.

3. I See You You See Me by Carol Rama at Hauser & Wirth

I See You You See Me is at Hauser & Wirth, 542 W 22nd St, Chelsea, on view May 12 – Aug 1, 2026. I See You You See Me marks the gallery’s first exhibition dedicated to the work of radical Italian artist Carol Rama (1918 – 2015). Organized by Carlo Knoell, this focused presentation gathers key works from six decades of Rama’s career, bringing new focus to the nature of her wildly original experimentations in various mediums—paint, textile, sculpture and bricolage—from 1947…

4. My Home by Huguette Caland at Lisson

My Home is at Lisson, 504 W 24th St, Chelsea, on view May 13 – Jul 26, 2026. "Imagination was probably my only homeland" Lisson Gallery is honored to stage the first solo exhibition of Huguette Caland’s work in New York for five years. Organized by independent curator and writer Tarini Malik, this presentation charts Caland’s groundbreaking career across five decades and three continents.

5. The Gift of Tongues by Sanford Biggers at Marianne Boesky

The Gift of Tongues is at Marianne Boesky, 507 W 24th St, Chelsea, on view Apr 30 – Jun 14, 2026. Boesky Gallery is pleased to present The Gift of Tongues, an exhibition of new work by Sanford Biggers (b. 1970; Los Angeles, CA). For his fourth solo exhibition with the gallery, Biggers sets the stage for a thoughtful reexamination of the entrenched myths and established narratives that inform our collective cultural identity.

6. Copy/Trace by Jasper Johns at David Zwirner

Copy/Trace is at David Zwirner, 537 W 20th St, Chelsea, on view May 7 – Jun 27, 2026. David Zwirner is pleased to present an exhibition of works by American artist Jasper Johns (b. 1930) at the gallery's West 20th Street location in New York. Conceived by independent curator Jeffrey Weiss, the exhibition focuses on related approaches to process in the artist's practice, together signified by the terms copy and trace.

7. Mark Manders by Mark Manders at Tanya Bonakdar

Mark Manders is at Tanya Bonakdar, 521 W 21st St, Chelsea, on view Apr 30 – Aug 1, 2026. For his sixth solo exhibition with the gallery, Mark Manders presents new work ranging from monumental bronze busts to abstract sculptural landscapes and discrete paintings and works on paper. Dreamlike and fragmented, these new pieces populate the gallery like a series of thoughts to which the artist gave form and then froze in time.

8. Door to Life by Pacita Abad at Tina Kim

Door to Life is at Tina Kim, 525 W 21st St, Chelsea, on view Apr 30 – Jun 21, 2026. "The trip to Yemen was a dream...every day a new idea, every day a new door" —Pacita Abad, Foreword to "Door to Life," 1999 Tina Kim Gallery is pleased to present Door to Life, its third solo exhibition of works by the visionary artist Pacita Abad (1946–2004) which highlights a series of works the artist made after a trip to Yemen in the spring of 1998.

Worth combining with the nearby galleries on the same block. Tina Kim is closed Mondays.

How to plan a walk

Chelsea's blockbusters concentrate between 19th and 28th Streets, west of 10th Avenue. Plan a full Saturday — start at Gagosian 21st or 24th, walk north to David Zwirner 19th and 20th, then to Hauser & Wirth 18th, then back south through the smaller galleries on 22nd, 24th, and 25th. The C/E to 23rd Street puts you in the middle of the cluster.
