Our picks

A Charitable Art Exhibition – “Reframing North Korea”

Hong Kong Arts Centre, Central · Through Nov 18

Oil paintings from North Korea, a tradition rooted in Russian realism and known for soft colour and quiet scenes of women and children, fill this charity show. Part of the proceeds from works sold goes to the host venue.

Tai Shan Schierenberg: Mixed Blessings

Flowers Gallery, Central · Through Nov 21

Landscapes and portraits by Schierenberg are built up in layers of colour and gesture. The paintings draw on his Malaysian-Chinese and German family and a childhood split between Malaysia, the Black Forest and London.

Last chance

Chiu Wei-Hsiang: Toil and Soil

gdm (Galerie du Monde), Central · Closed Oct 31

Paintings by Chiu depict the Taoyuan farming community where he grew up, since cleared for the Aerotropolis project, and the elderly people he cares for in his full-time job at a nursing institution. He works from memory, without sketches or photographs.
