Tom Sachs

Tom Sachs presents a new, fully immersive installation at his downtown studio, titled 31 Rue Cambon.

Drawing on his longstanding fascination with craftsmanship and brand deconstruction, the installation is named after the historic flagship boutique and heart of the Chanel empire in Paris, France. Built entirely by hand, 31 Rue Cambon constructs an alternate universe around Chanel in which the visual codes of haute couture are meticulously reproduced while simultaneously being called into question. The project interrogates the mythology of luxury through the lens of bootleg culture, exposing the fragile boundary between authenticity, desire, and mass consumption.

Building on the legacy of the artist's projects Nutsy’s (2003-2005) and the Space Program (2007-present), 31 Rue Cambon operates as a fully realized ecosystem, merging sculpture, craftsmanship, intentional imperfection, and live activation.
