More from Suzanne McClelland & Brock Enright on Gallop
Meyohas is proud to present works by Suzanne McClelland and Brock Enright, curated by Tyler Moore.
In this clean and cozy, corner apartment above the city streets the works lean, sit and hang like bodies. Both artists intimate the figure. They at once stand before you, and provide a space to move into, as potential egress.
Brock Enright’s paintings are trompe l’oeil doors that reveal a sherbet-colored dream space. Enright is a suburban shaman who actualizes the immaterial. He sifts through tons and tons of Dorito bags to find the perfectly shaped chip. Then, through his sculptural treatment, transforms them into something entirely different.
The earliest works in this show date back to 1984. Here we find Suzanne McClelland playing with the tail end of Color Field painting. She drops and throws torn and dipped fabric, knotted plastic bags and bat shit onto fields of canvas. Her ceramic objects in this empty Philip Johnson apartment sit on the floor. They have been squeezed into a variety of readings conveyed in porcelain and air-dry clay.
