Anna Blume, Bernhard Blume, Tatjana Danneberg

We're pleased to present an exhibition of new paintings by Tatjana Danneberg (b. 1991) created in response to historical, photographic works by Anna & Bernhard Blume (b. 1937; d. 2020) (b. 1937; d. 2011).

In their works, Anna & Bernhard Blume examine the absurdities of bourgeois domestic life. Staging themselves as protagonists in large-format black-and-white photo sequences, they transform everyday spaces into sites of surreal upheaval, where objects fly, collapse, and rebel. With irony and philosophical depth, the Blumes interrogate conventions of gender, identity, and transcendence – using the photographic medium itself to blur the boundaries between reality and the imaginary.

Tatjana Danneberg's practice begins with low-fi photography, often capturing intimate moments with friends. Through a process of physical transfer and expressive painterly intervention, she fragments and dissolves these images onto the canvas. By blurring the line between the mechanical lens and the artist's hand, Danneberg explores how images can be reimagined and expanded through deliberate manipulation.

Anna Blume (b. 1937 in Bork, Germany; d. 2020 in Cologne, Germany) and (b. 1937 in Dortmund, Germany; d. 2011 in Cologne, Germany) both studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf.

Tatjana Danneberg (b. 1991 in Vienna, Austria) lives and works in Vienna, Austria. She studied at the Technical University, Vienna, The Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, and Städelschule – Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Frankfurt am Main.
