Emmanuel Beguinot

The grotesque is what emerges when masks fall and a cosmos forms — These peculiar and strangely familiar figures that come together in Beguinot’s work examine our flawed humanity, pliable notions of morality, and our tendency to become caught in cycles of breaking and reassembling according to these frameworks. For the bodies on display here, Hell is always already present, and thus it is in filth and chaos that they appear most content, convinced as they are that anything related to order is inherently questionable.

Amity is pleased to present the first US solo presentation of works by Parisian artist Emmanuel Beguinot (b. 1989, France). The works presented foreground his dynamic approach to image making, both through the frenetic application of mixed media on paper, and the collaborative exercise of setting the piece within re-worked found frames, commonly in verso.
