Croy Nielsen, Vienna and Rob Tufnell, London/ Cologne present works by Ruth Ewan, Inventory, Elke Silvia Krystufek and Marlie Mul as part of Condo, London.

Ruth Ewan is concerned with the dissemination of radical politics whether through music, children’s education or more prosaic means. In 2003 she produced the first version of ‘A Jukebox of People Trying to Change the World’ an ongoing archive of music with a left-wing agenda presented on a CD jukebox. A specifically Feminist version of this work has been created in response to recent, well-documented events. Ewan has previously exhibited at Camden Arts Centre, London (2015), Tate Britain, London (2014-17); the Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw; the Collective Gallery, Edinburgh (2013); Kunsthall Charlottenborg, Copenhagen; Badischer Kunstverein, Karlsruhe (2012); Dundee Contemporary Arts; Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo, Seville (2011); the ICA, London (2008) and Studio Voltaire, London (2006). Her work was included in the São Paulo Biennial (2016); Folkestone Triennial (2011); Art Sheffield (2010); New Museum Triennial, New York; Tate Triennial, London (2009) and East International, Norwich (2006). Ewan lives and works in Glasgow.

Inventory’s ‘Requiem For The Empty Quarter’ (2002) presents an array of abandoned desktop computer keyboards repurposed to articulate a series of terse protests. Inventory was founded in London in 1995 intent on conducting a ‘fierce sociology’. As well as publishing a periodical they have previously held exhibitions at White Columns, New York (2005) and the British Council, Prague (1996). Their work has been included in exhibitions at Tate Liverpool; Tate Britain, London (2014); Museum of Contemporary Art, Belgrade (2007); Tate Britain (2006); Portikus, Frankfurt (2004); Lenbachhaus, Munich (2002); Tate Modern, London (2001) and the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (1996).

Elke Silvia Krystufek is best known for her performances, videos, photographs and paintings many of which address the identity of the female artist in a patriarchal society. Works in this exhibition are centred on the subject of the male portrait and include a pencil drawing of Egon Schiele (1994), a self-portrait of the artist as Otto Wagner (2017), and a painting of Jesus (2004). Krystufek has previously held solo exhibitions at Camera Austria, Graz (2008); Kestner Gesellschaft, Hannover (2009); MAK, Vienna (2007); Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, Deurle (2005); Kunstraum Innsbruck (2004); Museum voor Actuele Kunst, Den Haag (2003); Portikus, Frankfurt (2000); Secession, Vienna (1997) and ARC Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (1994). She exhibited in the Austrian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (2009) and also participated in the 50th Venice Biennale (2003); the 45th Venice Biennale (1993); the Prague Triennial (2008) and in the São Paulo Biennial (1998). She lives and works in Vienna.

Marlie Mul’s ‘Folded Painting’ series feature distorted, nude self-portraits. These are produced by folding half-painted canvases to create an imperfect mirrored image. The resulting paintings address the blurring of public and private identities, conformity and reproduction. Mul’s recent exhibition at GoMA, Glasgow was cancelled at her request. She has previously held solo exhibitions at Autocenter, Berlin and Space, London (2012) and her work has also been included in exhibitions at 21er Haus, Vienna; Kunsthalle Wien (2016); the Swiss Institute, New York; Ballroom Marfa; Kunsthalle Bern; Witte de With, Rotterdam (2015); Sculpture Center, New York; ICA, London; Fondazione Giuliani, Rome; Fridericianum, Kassel and De Hallen, Harlem (2014). Her work was also included in the Berlin Biennial (2016) and the Taipei Biennial (2014). She lives and works in Brussels.

Condo is a collaborative exhibition by 46 galleries across 17 London spaces.
