106 Green is proud to present Falsetto, a solo exhibition of new works by Alan Prazniak.

Alan Prazniak’s intimate paintings invite you into a world of deceptive charm. In it, we project ourselves onto nature, while it is busy doing its own thing. The vagueness of human presence is manifested in spirits, new age tones, and hallucinogenic color. Embodying the thrill of discovery, his world emerges as the brush stumbles into wizards, planets, eyeballs, and will o’ wisps. These symbols make the rules, sometimes telling the truth, sometimes lying and in many cases, leading astray. They are spiritual, not moralistic, stories where nothing is concrete.

From the artist:

"I want my paintings to play with an introspection that is an expansive, swirling weather condition, narrated by a disembodied flute and punctuated with moons, eyes and trickster orbs. Remote dwellings surrounded by turbulent gravity. Telescopes to other possibilities. Worlds that are shaped by mages with motives beyond our logic index. They’re small because magic should be lovely and local, sung in falsetto, resisting larger power structures."

Alan Prazniak (b. 1985) was raised on a horse farm in rural Pennsylvania, where his formative years were spent navigating the idyllic landscapes of the Delaware Water Gap. He received his BFA from Tyler School of Art and his MFA from Rutgers. He lives and works in Brooklyn but remembers the countryside fondly and visits often.
