Vincent Larouche

Interstate Projects is pleased to present Café de Flore, Vincent Larouche’s first solo exhibition in New York. Larouche’s work is a form of cultural archeology wherein he exhumes the iconography that is the accumulated constituencies of our visual miasma. The works in the show are a continuation of themes and associations that he constructs in order to give analysis, new points of entry and a setting for focused, contemplative pause.

The work is aleatory or metonymic in what it represents and is elusive in what it intends.

This is a part of his evolving technique of how to collide images and meaning to be simultaneously distilled, evaporated, and diffused. Through that process, the referred imagery eventually falls out of the present and gets closer to asking the larger question of “what painting is for” and how it serves to build upon the structures of image, history and a mutating or evolving conception of information.

Through his work, Larouche is creating excavated breadcrumbs through the rhetoric of assimilated visual language to create polymorphic narratives that are interacting in space, time and marking that passage.

Vincent Larouche (b.1995) lives and works in Montréal, QC. Recent solo exhibitions include Ocelles, at Fonderie Darling (Montreal 2020), CochLearSweat, at New Works (Chicago 2019); Bouches de Cendres Actives, at Soon.TW (Montreal 2019). He holds a B.F.A. with great distinction from Concordia University (2019).
