Fab 5 Freddy

Half Gallery & Harper’s Books present Fab 5 Freddy at the Nautilus South Beach where he will debut a series of new paintings.

We met Fab 5 Freddy after Richard Prince went on a studio visit and urged us to see his work for ourselves. Of course, we knew him as a hip hop pioneer and downtown icon, most recently watching him on the final episode of Anthony Bourdain's “Parts Unknown” and the new Basquiat documentary "Rage to Riches." Fab 5 Freddy's paintings were an unexpected surprise, the way he weaves self-empowerment and social commentary. Paintings of fighters and musicians, from Bruce Lee to Afrika Bambaata, synthesize Fab 5 Freddy's lifelong pursuits: reshaping how we look at art and culture, while creating a new vocabulary in the process.
