"Museum" explores the complexities and emotions surrounding the idea and practice of ownership. Shayne Oliver explores his history and relationships with Hood By Air as well as his position as a figure in the public grappling with the confines of his relationship to HBA and the iconography of his work as he moves forward as an artist. Ownership. What does that look like? What does it mean to truly own one's self, ideas, contributions? What does owning a concept mean? What does it mean to own a concept shared amongst a collective working when many are contributing to a common goal? Is expression or an idea truly your own when shared as a public figure and your audience too identifies and internalizes it as their own? The show opens bare - sparse, void of physical body - solely with the collars suspended symbolizing the current state of emptiness - standing on itself absent of energy. We close this show with vulnerable bodies in collars, as a practice and reflection of exploitation of those in bound while navigating their fight and understanding of ownership of self and self concept.
