Phosphor delves into the nature of transformation and belief. The title reflects all three artists shared conceptual and formal process of alchemy, transforming what was once mire and murky into light and the visible. Kuo, Kerr and Martinez are collectors of materials—be it iconography drawn from the internet or from personal memories, or images taken with a camera, or three dimensional objects like fabric and cast objects imbued with affect. Through processes of transformation in the studio—be it via industrial mechanisms or through brush or hand, and conducted solitarily or communally— they reveal studies of light, space and memory.

Antonia Kuo has presented works at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, The ICP, New York, Moma PS1 and Centre Pompidou, Paris.

Kathryn Kerr had recent exhibitions at Lomex, New York; AndNow, Dallas and Chapter NY.

Recently closed, Martinez presented a celebrated solo show at MoMA PS1. They have also held solo exhibitions at Speed Museum, Louisville and Blaffer Art Museum, Houston. Their work has been included in group exhibitions at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, and Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas.

Kuo, Kerr and Martinez received MFAs from Yale University in 2018.
