Leah Tacha

106 Green is proud to present “Fix Up, Look Sharp”, a solo exhibition of works by Leah Tacha.

Leah Tacha's new body of sculptures and prints are exercises in mixed messages, where utility is fictionalized, function is caricatured, and mysticism is teased. These well-tuned fusions of printmaking, painting and ceramics are imbued with an uneasy feeling that the work might break, tumble, or dramatically shift to find a new, more gravitationally stable position. This balancing act is born out of her sketchbook pages and sophisticated collages, where the vessels begin to take shape, acting as blueprints and building blocks. Once materialized as a vessel, the clay, glaze, spray paint, graphite and acrylic paint are in constant, opposing motion. The paint moves from the clay's surface to a print that's been wedged in it. The photo collage images cross back over, re-translated into the cracks and bends of the sculpture. Ultimately, they are confronting, inviting and honest visions of an artist's complicated place in the world.

Leah Tacha (b. 1984, Lawrence, KS) lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She received her BFA in Painting from The Cleveland Institute of Art in 2007 and her MFA from SUNY Purchase College in 2009. Her first solo exhibition in NY was curated by Jon Lutz at Sardine in Brooklyn, NY in 2014. She has shown with Daily Operation, RARE Gallery, New Baroque, and the Torrance Art Museum, among others. In 2015 she was awarded the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop SIP Fellowship and will be included in a group exhibition at Present Company this November.
