Peter Shire

Peter Shire has for decades maintained a multidisciplinary practice of fine art, design and craft. With references to Bauhaus, Futurism, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco, his ceramics remain a mainstay of his output.

The eclectic playfulness and subtle irony of Peter Shire’s oeuvre caught the attention of Ettore Sottsass, who in the early 80s invited Shire to be part of the Memphis Group.

Since graduating from The Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles (Today: California Institute of the Arts) Peter Shire’ s works have been shown in more than 75 solo exhibitions worldwide, his works are represented in many public collections and museums including LACMA, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Victoria & Albert Museum, Stedelijk Museum.

Born in 1947, Peter Shire lives and works in his native Echo Park district of Los Angeles. Echo Park Pottery designed by Peter Shire is represented by Les Gens Heureux in the EU.
