Dan Asher
Silence
Oct 21 – Nov 13, 2021
Pact is pleased to present Dan Asher's first solo exhibition in France.
Dan Asher (American), born in 1947 in Cleveland, OH, lived and worked in New York until his death in 2010.
Dan Asher had a prolific career in a variety of mediums (including photography, painting, sculpture, music and video). Asher is perhaps best known for his contemplative works on paper defined by gestural and vibrant strokes of graphite, oil and tempera that were completed in the early 1980s. Through these expressionistic, masklike portraits, Asher explores the connections and lapses between the psychological and the corporeal, the personal and the public, the absurd and the austere.
The exhibition is presented in collaboration with the Dan Asher Foundation and Martos Gallery.
Asher’s works are in the permanent collections of MoMA, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Museum Ludwig, Germany, Kunstmuseum Wintertur, Switzerland...
Selected exhibitions include: An Anthropologist on Mars, Martos Gallery, New York, NY (2018); White Room: Dan Asher at White Columns, New York, NY (2008); a solo show at Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, New York, NY (2005); Red Aurora at Galerie de Expeditie, Amsterdam, Netherlands (2004); Dan Asher: Guestarbeither on the Planet at Aurel Scheibler, Cologne, Germany (1998); Dan Asher at Kunsthaus Muerz, Murzzuschlag, Austria (2003) and Dan Asher: Recent Photographs at Paula Cooper Gallery, New York, NY (2001).
