Tang Shuo

Borrowed History

Oct 8 – Nov 8, 2026

Plato is pleased to present Tang Shuo’s solo exhibition, Borrowed History.

Tang Shuo explores themes of identity, nature, and human connection. Shuo spent his early years growing up in a small village in southern China. Drawing on memories of his upbringing and his family’s history, he conjures mysterious scenes that evoke universal myths, in which he often appears as the protagonist. Shuo’s compositions, steeped in art-historical references, contemplate personal memory, relocation, and migration within broader cultural histories.

Tang Shuo (b. 1987) received his Bachelor’s degree at the Department of Mural Painting of Guangxi Arts University (2008-2012) and studied Experimental Art at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing (2014-2015). His recent solo exhibitions include Borrowed History at Plato, New York (2026), upcoming; My Garden at Steve Turner, LA (2024); The Narrators at Beers London (2024); and Shadow of Boulder Hill at Fabienne Levy Gallery, Lausanne and Geneva (2023).
