American Medium is proud to present Corpus Rising, an exhibition of new paintings by R. Lord, Jayson Musson, and Matthew Palladino. Exploring foundational philosophies of corporeal and institutional control, the collected works examine power, conspiracy and edifice. Habeus Corpus, a path of recourse for the imprisoned to challenge their imprisonment, translates directly as “you may have the body.” A body of evidence, in exchange for a body of flesh.

Jayson Musson (b. 1977 Bronx, NY) is a Brooklyn based artist who works in painting, video, writing, and comedy to explore popular culture, race, and historical trauma. His collaboration with artist Alex Da Corte, Easternsports, is currently on view at the Whitney Museum of American Art in Dreamlands: Immersive Cinema and Art.

R.Lord (b. 1986 Washington D.C.) lives and works in Sausalito, CA. In the belief that continuity of style is an old dog flogging himself on the same ol’pillow, Lord is constantly seeking the most relevant method to get herself off on the intersecting boundaries of consciousness and confusion. She uses scale and greyscale to depict exopolitical memes, reflecting on how our conspiracies of belief create the epistemological cartoon we call reality.

Matthew Palladino (b. 1985 San Francisco, CA) is a New York based painter.
