Bodies Go Wrong as one might expect is a rather anxious collection of works. It’s a given, but I liked the phrase because our bodies too, are sad and funny. Teetering, ungainly and certainly porous, the art- works in Bodies Go Wrong read like a list of unease. It’s the end of a long haul flight when everything and everyone is disheveled - emitting (or attempting to obscure) the ungainly scent peculiar to ones restriction in a hurtling fuselage. The simulated air pressure quickens the natural impulse of gravity and time, this affect oddly framed by the cabin. In spite of the airlines’ and industrial designers’ attempts to render these interiors with some weird sterile comfort, the hard surfaces and clean lines are disrupted by accumulated waste, the smears and secretions of our imperfect bodies.

The artists in Bodies Go Wrong utilize high and low techniques and materials in the service of represen- tative and abstract forms that pit the squeamish and unpleasant of the human body with the mechanical and digital. Think of it as though you’re on a plane with more space, better people and fancier cocktails.

Ella Barclay (born Sydney, AU) holds an MSc from the University of Edinburgh and is a currently PhD candidate at the University of Technology, Sydney. Recent exhibitions include Elemental Phenomena Griffith University Art Gallery, Almost Party with Yujun Ye, Instant 42, Taipei and When You Dream That You Are Naked You Are Not Aware That You Are Dreaming, 55 Sydenham Rd. Forthcoming exhi- bitions include The Sun At Midnight, Fremantle Art Centre and I Had To Do It, UTS Gallery. She lives and works in Sydney, Australia.

Ashley Carter (born New York, NY) holds a BFA from California College of the Arts in 2010 and her MFA from Columbia University in 2013. Recent shows include A Shot in the Arm at Halsey McKay Gallery, Umpawaug’s Bloom at Kimberly Klark and Tilt at 55 GANSEVOORT. In 2016, she will be fea- tured in upcoming shows at L.A.N.D (Los Angeles Nomadic Division) and Young World (Detroit). She lives and works in New York, NY.

Jackson Slattery (born Melbourne, AU) holds a Bachelor of Fine Art, from RMIT University in 2004. Recent exhibitions include MILE X/SORRENTO, TCB, Melbourne, Every Picture, Sutton Gallery, Mel- bourne; Halfway to a Dead Heat, Siamese Dream, Montreal and Trust Me, Galerie Desaga, Cologne. In 2013 Slattery undertook the Australia Council for the Arts and Anne & Gordon Samstag ISCP Resi- dency in New York, USA. Slattery is a founding director of Raising Cattle, Montreal. He lives and works in Montreal, Canada.

Marc Zajack (born Philadelphia, PA) His visual work focuses around painting, sculpture and collage. Independently, he has shown throughout Philadelphia at venues such as Pageant Gallery, Icebox Project space and Vox Populi. Along with his visual practice he collaborates regularly with others on sound, media and installation based projects in the groups Kali Yuga Zoo Brigade, MMNNSSD and Tandem Cascades (solo). He Lives and works in Philadelphia PA.

Simon Zoric (born Melbourne, AU). In 2014 he received an MFA from the Victorian College of the Arts. He has been an artist in resident at the Sim Residency in Reykjavik, Iceland and the Djerassi Artist Resident Program in Woodside CA.
