Kim Yeonhong

Gallery Coso presents Paper Street, a solo exhibition by Kim Yeonhong. The exhibition begins with the idea of a “paper street”—a street drawn on a map but absent in reality. Kim has long been fascinated by “paths that exist nowhere yet could exist somewhere,” and through them, she explores the boundaries between reality and unreality, memory and imagination.

On her canvases, fragments of nature—traces of wind, waves, and fleeting landscapes—surface and vanish, overlapping in layers of transparency. These chance connections do not simply depict nature but recall sensory impressions stored in the body and memory, translating them into a painterly language. Viewers are invited into a state of tension and suspension, as if walking along a path that does not exist.

Art director Shin Myungchul describes Kim’s paintings as “an experience on a road that flows and disappears like a river, yet never stops.” In this way, Kim’s practice records the moments where presence and absence, memory and oblivion intersect. Paper Street brings together her ongoing exploration of “painting as oscillation and overlap,” offering glimpses of another possible world emerging through landscapes that vanish and reappear.

Kim Yeonhong (b. 1994) studied Western Painting at Ewha Womans University (BFA, MFA). Her works draw from subtle scenes of everyday life wind, light, ripples of water — — collected through photographs and digital images. By layering and destabilizing them on canvas, she reveals “paths and landscapes that do not exist but are sensed.” Kim has recently held solo exhibitions including Tail on Tail (2024, Gallery Sang, Seoul) and Golden Waves, Whispering Breeze (2024, OnDream Society, Seoul). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions such as Summer Hashtag (2025, Shinsegae Gallery, Daegu), Flower Shower (2025, Group Gallery, Seoul), and Eye Fuel (2024, GongGARM, Seoul).
