Kristen Jensen

Kristen Jensen is an artist who works across media, but is known more for her sculptural installations. She has consistently nurtured complementary aspects of her practice that are conceptually relevant. The video “intermission” is a sequence culled from a degraded drive-in movie intermission reel found in upstate New York. Jensen was entranced by the burned out and faded images that naturally occurred from years of use, resulting in an ominous cloud that hovers throughout the sequences suggesting a pathos that lies behind the once romantic image. Notions of physical degradation and the durability of mediums have always been implicit in her work and through the breakdown of the film we see the intentionality of the romantic interlude give way to the chance abstractions that play across the screen. Jensen is interested in creating sculptural objects and playing with their implicit use.

For her exhibition at Outlet, Jensen has created an intimate viewing room for the projection of her new film that includes a ceramic bench whose proportions uncomfortably seat two viewers.

Kristen Jensen lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She received her MFA from Hunter College in 2010. She has exhibited nationally and internationally at Wallspace, Nicelle Beauchene, Norte Maar, and Bortolami Gallery among others. Recent performances were featured during Art Basel Miami 2014 and NADA 2014.
