As the bear sleeps and winter slows it’s cold blowing winds, spring can almost be felt or smelt in the air. They say it takes about 80% of the energy from the food you eat to keep your body temperature regulated and in wintertime we tend to feel more sleepy because our bodies are working so hard to stay warm. Other creatures go dormant, insects and plants almost die; it is only in this tail end of winter that we feel life finally returning. For artists, winter can be productive and social with plenty of time spent inside the studio and maybe at a favorite watering hole, a cozy gentle fire. It can also be a dark time to brood in isolation; slowly churning through nascent ideas that are waiting to burst through the cold soil like dark earthy worms, spring flowers or reanimated corpses punching through their frozen coffin lids! — but for now thoughts thrum slow. Deep breaths rumble in and out, the chaos of the mind oscillates towards a single point; thinking, feeling, thinking, feeling, thinking, feeling…the sleep continues for a little longer.
On view by appointment through March 23rd
