Matt DiGiacomo

Ross + Kramer is pleased to present Taste, Matt DiGiacomo's second solo exhibition with the gallery in New York.

Taste features 14 paintings and 3 sculptures that exemplify DiGiacomo's distinct iconography. Working instinctually, DiGiacomo consistently experiments with new formats and materials—both traditional and nontraditional. Filling the canvas with a spirit of playful rebellion, his illustrations often feature recurring imagery of various body parts, such as eyes, mouths, and hearts alongside scattered words and phrases that seem to take on the form of declarations or maxims.

In works such as NYC (2024), his signature mouth symbol, adorned with a buckled smile, is repeated across the canvas. This caricature-like smile, in an incomplete expression, is seen again in its three-dimensional form instantiating an ambiguous utterance in DiGiacomo's resin sculpture, Untitled (Half Chomper) (2023).

DiGiacomo's works are born from and symbolic of Los Angeles culture. Though often satirical and poking at conventions of the commercial art market, his works reveal a deeper mediation on the notion of the "California Dream" with its promises of beauty, exuberance, and capital. While aesthetically evocative of street art and graffiti, the cheeky parlance of his paintings delivers at once a youthful, laid-back energy and an intriguing sociocultural examination.

Matt DiGiacomo (b. Los Angeles) is a Los Angeles based artist and designer. DiGiacomo's work has been exhibited at Ross + Kramer (New York and East Hampton, NY) and Honor Fraser (Los Angeles, CA).
