More from Jibade-Khalil Huffman on Gallop
In Jibade-Khalil Huffman's new video and sound installation, a narrative unfolds across surfaces and screens, revealing and obscuring objects in the gallery space over the course of an hour. By dramatizing our relationship to culture, Huffman examines our affinities for black music, and our expectations for its potential as a tool of resistance. Within this mutable narrative, the characters—waylaid by a contemporary condition that demands a performance of identity, even while those identities are undermined by systems of oppression— seek to enact a kind of utopia.
