Nothing Ever Happened

Chapter 61 is very pleased to announce an inaugural exhibition Nothing Ever Happened in our new location at 180 St. Nicholas Ave in Manhattan’s Morningside Heights. The space was left in disrepair by it’s previous tenants and has not been renovated since the late 70’s. This exhibition presents new works by eight artists who have worked very closely to incorporate the space’s architectural elements. Combining varying degrees of light and darkness, the layers of visible history evoke a state of disembodied revery. By removing point of reference, the space will house a post-modern sculpture salon, immersive installation, light sculptures, small structural interventions, and painting. Their works draws into question the nature of the stories we tell ourselves, disassociation, (a)history, and the notion of “sillage.”

Eve Ackroyd was born in the UK in 1984, she lives and works in NY. She studied painting at Chelsea College of Art and Design, and, Weissensee School of Art in Berlin. Her work was selected for Creekside Open, APT gallery, 2013 and she was a finalist in the John Moores painting prize in 2012. She was invited by Art Basel Hong Kong, to show a solo presentation of her work in Art Futures with Cole London, 2011. Recent group shows include Signal over noise, Pictorem Gallery, London 2014, Detail, Transition Gallery, London, 2014.

Katherine Aungier ( born 1983, Portland) lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She received her BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in 2006. Recent group exhibitions include; Beverly’s, New York, NY, Material Art Fair, Mexico City, Mexico, Emerson Dorsch , Miami, FL, Hood Gallery, Brooklyn, NY and Antenna Gallery New Orleans,LA. Forthcoming exhibitions include a solo show at Hood Gallery. She has served in an advisory role at Disjecta and the Oni Gallery, additionally she is a new member of Regina Rex. Katherine is the co-founder of (harbor), where she currently curates.

Murat Adash is a German-Turkish artist based in NYC. His recent works have been exhibited and performed at EXPO Chicago, 6018 North in Chicago, the Grimmuseum in Berlin, at the Month of Performance Art in Berlin, Motorenhalle in Dresden (Germany) and the Kriti Gallery in Varanasi (India). Adash was recently awarded a one-year studio residency in Istanbul by the Hessische Kulturstiftung in Germany where he will conduct studies in social choreography. Adash holds an MFA in Performance from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, which he completed through a DAAD and Fulbright artist grant.

Zuzanna Czebatul, born 1986 in Poland, works and lives between Berlin and New York. She is currently enrolled in the Hunter College MFA Program in New York City on a Fulbright Scholarship. Her work has been exhibited at Gillmeier Rech and Center in Berlin, at the Märkisches Museum Witten, at the Heidelberger Kunstverein, Schirn Kunsthalle and 1822 Kunstforum in Frankfurt am Main, where she also graduated at Städelschule in the class Willem de Rooij in 2013.

Angeline Gragasin is a NYC-based artist whose practice combines documentary photography with historical research and improvisation techniques drawn from theatre and dance to create the conditions for images which are mysterious, sensual, and evocative. Her work explores the relationships between humans and our environment. Her images are a tool for constructing memory; the creation of an image is an erotic act.

Hilde Lynn is an artist and independent curator based in New York City. She received her B.F.A. from the San Francisco Art Institute. She is the founder of Chapter 61.

Katrina Neumann (b. 1985, Fullerton, CA) received her B.F.A from SUNY Purchase College and her M.F.A from SMFA and Tufts University. Her work has been featured in the juried-in-print exhibition New American Paintings, Radio Context, WNYC, Whurk Magazine and Berlin Art-Parasites. Her curatorial work has been reviewed in ArtNews. She is affiliated with Flux Factory, Elsewhere Museum, CAC Woodside, LMCC, Creative Capital, Artist Alliance Inc. and All Hands Volunteer. Neumann is the Founder and Chief Editor of Rate My Artist Residency.

Melanie Jolanta Moczarski was born in Houston, Texas and grew up in South America. She attended the Art Students League of NY and earned her BFA from Parsons The New School for Design. Her work has been shown in various exhibitions, including the Clifford Chance collection (NYC), the Bruce High Quality Foundation's Last Brucennial (NYC), Y Gallery (NYC), Tripolli Gallery (Southampton, NY), The Williamsburg Art and Historical Center (NYC), and O Fim (Rio de Janeiro). She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.

Max Warsh lives in Brooklyn and works in Queens, NY. He received his MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2004. He has had a solo exhibition at toomer labzda, New York.
