Jenine Marsh

Chapter 61 presents Feral Tongue, a solo exhibition by Jenine Marsh curated by Hilde Lynn.

Lick the length of the long corridor. It wears a coat of a thousand layers. Lead paint and waxy varnish are skinned with washes of cooking and hair oils, perfumes, ointments and heel scuffs. Glazes of denim dye rub hip height and dirty hands smudge oily wreaths around knobs and latches. Sifting through the skins left behind, it's like drunk digging in the bedtop coat pile at the end of the party.

Lick the length of the long corridor, around to the back of an ear. Swap spit, swap coats, cultivate. As strangers, we meet at our out-sides, at an extroverted skin of first impression and appearance. We block out a superficial language, a composition of contact and proximity. While perfumes and lotions bleed into each other, our strangenesses need no compromise. Because we share this new skin, the feeling is mutual.

Jenine Marsh (b. 1984, Calgary, Canada) lives and works in Toronto, Canada. She received her MFA from the University of Guelph in 2013 and has participated in residencies at the Banff Centre for the Arts, the Vermont Studio Center, and Struts Gallery. Marsh's work has recently been exhibited at Cooper Cole Gallery, Art Metropole, Jr. Projects, G Gallery (all Toronto), Lulu (Mexico City), Hamilton Artists Inc. (Hamilton ON), DNA Artspace (London ON), and The Art Gallery of Calgary. Her work is represented by Cooper Cole Gallery in Toronto.
