Pooneh Maghazehe

Pooneh Maghazehe is a sculptor based in Brooklyn, NY. Notable solo exhibitions include “Half-Life” at KinoSaito Art Center in Verplanck, NY, “2for1” at Kathryn Brennan Gallery and “Double Zero 0%0%0%0%” at 17 Essex in New York, NY. Incorporating source material with symbolic qualities such as the Diet Coke logo, supermarket coupons, and gas station signage, the starting point for Maghazehe's recent sculptures involve casting parts of a single mold that she has used for the past five years. She casts both the interior and exterior of this single mold that has over time become unrecognizable from its original form - a long view process that tells an origin story and questions ideas of permanence. The resulting works expose an intuitive material record keeping that mutually empowers an original as well as the pulpy residues of its manipulation.
