Joanne Hummel-Newell & Stephen Smith

Sid Motion Gallery is pleased to present a two person exhibition, Deep End Echo, including recent works on canvas and works on paper by Joanne Hummel-Newell and Stephen Smith.

Joanne Hummel-Newell studied at The Royal College of Art, London, 2004-2006 and Kingston University, London, 2001-2004.

Hummel-Newell has exhibited extensively, selected solo exhibitions include Integration II, at the Resident Artist Saatchi Art Lounge, Old Truman Brewery, London, 2017; Disorder, K6 Gallery, Southampton, 2016; The Farmer’s Clock, Hop Kilns Gallery, Isle of Wight, 2015; Panic of the Human Fancy, Aspex Guildhall Gallery, Portsmouth, 2014.

Selected recent group exhibitions include A Few of our Favourite Things, Lotte Inch Gallery, York, 2017; Turns on the Tarmac, Sid Motion Gallery, 2017; MK Arts Shoosmiths Art Prize shortlist exhibition, 2015; Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, London, 2014; Jerwood Drawing Prize shortlist Exhibition, London and touring 2012; Afternoon Tea, WW Gallery, 54th Venice Biennale, Venice 2011.

Stephen Smith is a UK based artist that makes work that draws on a process of construction and deconstruction.

Smith has exhibited his work extensively internationally including the recent exhibitions; Dirty Voyage, Schau Fenster, Berlin, 2018; Blind Spot, Delimbo Gallery, Seville, Spain, 2018; Current Mood, Galerie Celal M13, Paris, 2017; Radical Utopias, Mini Galerie, Amsterdam, Netherlands (Solo), 2016; Papierkowa Robota, V9 Gallery, Warsaw and Col.la.ge II, Minigalerie, Amsterdam, Netherlands, 2015.

Smith has completed residencies in Hestercombe Gallery and Plymouth Arts Centre, 2016; CalArts | California Institute of the Arts, 2014, and awarded the British Council Visual Arts Award, 2008 and the Arts Council of England Visual Arts Award, 2006.
