Travis Egedy

Under The Oven Gallery is pleased to present Ultraviolet Mythology, Travis Egedy’s first solo exhibition in New York.

Egedy’s new Ultraviolet Mythology series of paintings are largely composed of text-based “cut-ups” gleaned from vintage tabloid magazines, reprocessed, digitally printed on to canvas and juxtaposed with his signature emotive color fields. Through these expressive gestures, Egedy creates his own pop cultural mythology of a collective archetypal experience, exploiting collective fears and fascinations with sex, death, power, tragedy, and beauty.

Travis Egedy a/k/a Pictureplane has made his name as a vital force in the global DIY community, orbiting the outer limits of pop culture through the worlds of underground music, visual art, and fashion. Colliding familiar with fringe, hard line with visceral spatter, the Brooklyn-based artist has previously exhibited at the Denver Museum of Contemporary Art; Fitness (Brooklyn, NY); The Museum of Human Achievement (Austin, TX); Terrault Contemporary (Baltimore, MD); Make Up Gallery (Košice, Slovakia), amongst others. Egedy is also the founder of the paranormal streetwear line, Alien Body.
