Gregory Kalliche

Signal is pleased to present Hidden Hiss, a solo exhibition by Gregory Kalliche, consisting of a three-channel video installation accompanied by a series of infrared LED drawings.

In Hidden Hiss Kalliche takes the electromagnetic spectrum as a subject, rendering the infra- and ultra-visual through the choreographed play of video and lighting. Using 3D modeling, Kalliche indulges in some of the medium’s most familiar conventions: scientific depictions of the unseen world are realized in the sleek visuals of product design, playful animations, and 3D image compositing. An invisible, incomprehensible power floats through space, haunts appliances, and assumes the form of tangled segments of LED strip and figurative tableaus.

Hidden Hiss reflects on how diagrams and renderings enable us to comprehend the unseen energies that permeate the world around us, and how a growing awareness of these ever-present systems can fill us with unsettling apprehension, as they gradually lose their opacity and approach the boundaries of perception.
