More from Keith Mayerson on Gallop

My American Dream (Prologue) is a three painting series of works by Keith Mayerson, that performs as a romantic "first act" for his upcoming salon-style non-linear narrative My American Dream, to be exhibited in the Stuart Comer section of the 2014 Whitney Biennial. The first work is a diptych of the artist and his husband, Andrew, rendered from photographs taken by studios when they were small children. The second painting of the series is Superman, based on the first 1941 cartoon by the Fleischer Brothers that help to define the iconic American character (originally created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster) for the artist and for generations of people throughout the world. The last painting of the series depicts, from the artist's own photo and POV, sunlight beaming down at he and Andrew relaxing together in rafts at their pool below their modest cabin in Perris, California.

Keith Mayerson's work is featured in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York (MoMA), the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA), the Corcoran Gallery, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Columbus Museum of Art (CMA). He has a B.A. from Brown University, and an MFA from the University of California, Irvine, and lives in New York City. This will be his seventh solo exhibition with the gallery.
