About the show
Curtis Mitchell came to NY in 1984, graduating Yale MFA class of ‘83 after having studied with Bary Le Va in 1980. From 1986 to 87 his work was reviewed thrice by the NYT. In 1989 he was picked up by Andrea Rosen, staying until 1994. In 1990 he was written up in Vogue. 2003 was the Mattress Factory in Pittsburgh, 2006 MoMA PS1, 2009 Martos Gallery in Manhattan, and 2022 in an exhibition curated by Candy Cane.
In 2025, Alex Berns and No Inc. present Curtis Mitchell, 19 Black Dogs. This exhibition brings together nineteen never before shown stuffed animals made: 2015-2024.
