The Mexican artist Jose Dávila (b. 1974) presents an expansive installation (“The Stone that the Builder Refused”) that, in wrestling with itself, almost seems to defy the laws of physics. The collision between antagonistic forces yields a balance that makes Dávila’s show a center of calm amid the urban fabric. The artist’s work is included in the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, the Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, the Renee and Mark Rockefeller Collection, New York, and other major collections.
