Hard Art

Hard Art looks at the legacy of abstract painting by Black artists in the United States from 1969 to the present. More than forty artists across three generations are included, setting paintings by artists who came to prominence in the 1970s, among them Frank Bowling, Peter Bradley, Ed Clark and Barbara Chase-Riboud, beside recent work in sculpture, video, sound and painting by artists including Torkwase Dyson, Aria Dean, Rindon Johnson and Eric N. Mack. The title comes from Peter Bradley's description of The DeLuxe Show. Organized by Connie Butler, The Agnes Gund Director, with Sheldon Gooch, Curatorial Assistant.
