Retrogarde Pro-jects

Retrogarde is a group of professional artists who meet monthly. Their connection is in using the idea of the past (retro) to go forward (garde as in avant garde) – to explore new ideas, materials.

They have shown together in various venues in New York City, expanding to include guest artists as well.

Some members are working with digital imaging augmented by traditional painting and drawing, some are working with alternative high tech painting surfaces to find expression in free form flowing paint. Yet others adhere to traditional painting and drawing, either on paper or canvas or as lines floating in space. In all members is a desire to express their art from their whole being, not just from a cerebral idea, but from a source within, through vehicle of abstraction.
