Maggie Lee

For any type of group activity to work, there has to be a contract in the hearts of everyone participating. Any real artist found their way into this room because the contracts of our world are not enough. Our new contract is simple: we show up for each other with an open mind, because the world has not been showing up for us.

Maggie Lee knows this very well, and has been honoring this strange contract more consistently than anyone I know. For me, this is where the beauty in her work lives. Every time she shows, the terms of Maggie’s approach become wider and somehow further unsubstantiated in ways that require a big eye and a big ear. That is to say not evidence based. The material is getting pushed far, to the point where the Wink Stage* will disappear, and its just us, winking, because we promised each other we would.
