More from Béatrice Côté on Gallop
Béatrice Côté’s recent practice draws from the play of color in daily life. Through her paintings she aims to reveal the subtle encounter of natural and built environments, honing in on incidental moments and capturing their essence.
Her gaze lingers on oft-overlooked details of the urban landscape—entrance halls, frontages and narrow gardens—inviting us to slow down and take notice. Alternating between detailed work and blurred gestures, Côté investigates the traces and triumphs of nature, as it relates to human presence and interaction.
More than a simple aesthetic experience, Côté’s work reflects a deeper communion with the artist and their impact on the community. It serves as a unique call to preserve both our environmental and cultural heritage.
Béatrice Côté is an artist based in Montreal, Canada, and Brooklyn, NY. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from Concordia University. Her recent exhibitions include Also a Good Place to Sulk at Zalucky Contemporary, Toronto (2024), Clay Court at Loulou, Montreal (2023), and the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy, London, UK (2022). Côté has participated in several notable artist residencies, including Inshuti Art Gallery in Kigali, Rwanda (2021), the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Alberta (2024), and most recently, NARS Foundation in New York City (2024).
