More from FlucT on Gallop

FlucT is back. After a 5-year reset, collaborative duo Monica Mirabile and Sigrid Lauren have reunited to create Tough on the Tongue, a performance installation opening October 22nd, presented by OCDChinatown. Tough on the Tongue marks the debut of the new OCDChinatown space, a floor-through loft on Lafayette Street.

Where past FlucT performances and installations have focused on external systems of control, Tough on the Tongue shifts towards an examination of the internal systems that shape individual and collective reality. How is perception an authority in and of itself? The performance installation interrogates somatic distortion, considering the body as a felt experience. Indirectly, the show asks how the doomscrolling era has reshaped our perception of reality, and how our somatic experiences feed back into that distortion. Activating the entire loft, FlucT invites participants to move fluidly alongside them through live performance, video art, and sculpture.

Throughout the run of the show, various performances are being staged in the space, including a retrospective restaging of earlier FlucT works performed by a new cast, and a newly created duet performed by Lauren and Mirabile.

FlucT is the collaborative work of two artists, Sigrid Lauren and Monica Mirabile, addressing issues in the capital obedience of American culture through choreography and performance. Creating original narrative soundscapes linking a manipulated pop music psychosis with violently intimate dance, their composition is a projection driven to expose the psychology of this social paradigm.
