About the show
Kenzi Shiokava’s first solo museum exhibition gathers more than fifty sculptures made across five decades. Carved totems and intimate box assemblages bring Japanese woodworking into dialogue with South Los Angeles assemblage, Candomblé, Catholicism and Zen, following the artist’s belief that material itself could guide acts of excavation and recovery.
