Hubert Barrere, the creator, artistic director of Maison Lesage (Chanel Metiers d'Art) and visionary embroiderer, offers a personal and sensitive perspective on contemporary creation. At the crossroads of craftsmanship and visual arts, the exhibition celebrates the hand, the soul, and the suspended moment.

Through a selection of works that weave intimate connections between artists, the exhibition pays homage to the emotion of the image, to the artistic blur as a revealer of beauty, and to the feminine figure--whether as silent muse or defiant rebel. Icons such as photographer Erwin Olaf, whose passing in 2023 left a profound impression on Hubert Barrere, meet a new generation of artists, including Rakajoo, Charles Hascoet, and Saype. Transmission becomes vibrant--not didactic, but tender and demanding. The artworks converse like a visual fugue. The handcrafted gestures of Li Hongbo, the veiled portraits of the Miaz Brothers, and the totemic embroideries of Eko Nugroho respond to the light of photography, the texture of drawing, and the depth of painting.

The exhibition is accompanied by a personal narration by Hubert Barrere, available to each visitor, offering insights into each artwork and unveiling the resonances, stories, and emotions woven into them. As a guide of visions, Hubert Barrere orchestrates a choral, elegant, and tactile symphony, celebrating art as a carnal and sensory expression of the world.

Hubert Barrere is a French fashion designer, corset maker, and embroiderer, and has served as the Artistic Director of Maison Lesage (Chanel Group) since 2011. Trained at the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, he launched his own line, which earned the Grand Prix de la Mode from the City of Paris, before leading the Hurel atelier for fourteen years, working closely with Karl Lagerfeld. In 2008, he was appointed President of the Fashion Group International of Paris and published a seminal book on the history of the corset.

In the 2020s, Barrere has exhibited his own creations at Villa Noailles and Artcurial, designed costumes and scenography for the Opera-Comique, soprano Lea Desandre, and the ballet B comme... by Nicolas Le Riche. In 2020, he chaired the accessories jury at the Hyeres Festival, and in 2023, the fashion jury. Recognized internationally, Barrere embodies the meeting point of artisanal savoir-faire and contemporary creation, championing a sensitive and innovative vision of embroidery.

Pour cette carte blanche estivale, Hubert Barrère, directeur artistique de la Maison Lesage du groupe Chanel et brodeur visionnaire, propose un regard personnel et sensible sur la création contemporaine. À la croisée des métiers d'art et des arts visuels, l'exposition célèbre la main, l'âme et l'instant suspendu.

A travers une sélection d'œuvres qui tissent des correspondances intimes entre les artistes, l'exposition rend hommage à l'émotion de l'image, au flou artistique comme révélateur de la beauté, et à la figure féminine, muse silencieuse ou rebelle assumée.

Des icônes comme le photographe Erwin Olaf, dont la disparition en 2023 laisse une empreinte profonde chez Hubert Barrère, rencontrent la nouvelle génération, incarnée par Rakajoo, Charles Hascoët ou encore Saype. La transmission se fait vibrante, sans didactisme, mais avec tendresse et exigence.

Les œuvres dialoguent comme dans une fugue visuelle. Les gestes artisanaux de Li Hongbo, les portraits voilés des Miaz. Brothers ou les broderies totémiques de Eko Nugroho répondent à la lumière de la photographie, au grain du dessin ou à l'épaisseur de la peinture.

À la manière des correspondances baudelairiennes, le parcours suggère des affinités électives, des amitiés artistiques et des coups de foudre esthétiques. Chaque pièce devient un miroir, un fil, un murmure.

L'exposition Apparitions est accompagnée d'une narration personnelle d'Hubert Barrère, qui, disponible pour chaque visiteur, fait découvrir chaque œuvre et en révèle les résonances, les histoires et les émotions tissées.

Hubert Barrère est un créateur de mode, corsetier et brodeur français, directeur artistique de la Maison Lesage (groupe Chanel) depuis 2011. Formé à l'Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, il lance sa propre ligne primée par le Grand Prix de la Mode de la Ville de Paris, avant de diriger pendant quatorze ans l'atelier Hurel, collaborant étroitement avec Karl Lagerfeld. En 2008, il est élu président du Fashion Group International de Paris et publie un ouvrage de référence sur le corset.

Dans les années 2020, il expose ses propres créations notamment à la Villa Noailles et chez Artcurial, conçoit costumes et scénographies pour l'Opéra-Comique, la soprano Lea Desandre ou encore le ballet B comme... de Nicolas Le Riche. En 2020, il préside le jury de la catégorie accessoires au Festival de Hyères puis, en 2023, celui de la mode. Reconnu à l'international, il incarne la rencontre entre savoir-faire artisanal et création contemporaine, défendant une vision sensible et innovante de la broderie.
