Studio 200 presents the pop up group exhibition Dissolving Artifacts at 10 Jay Street.

In 1897, the first brick of Brooklyn was laid. That year, John and Charles Arbuckle, Pennsylvania-born coffee shippers opened a sugar refinery at 10 Jay Street. By the turn of the century, 10 Jay Street housed an operation that helped make Brooklyn into the fourth greatest manufacturing center in America.

Today, 10 Jay Street no longer houses sugar or coffee. What was once here is story, myth, dissolved. Fluctuating landscapes stay constant. The same river flows as old foundations try to hold their ground.

Maybe if we listen carefully, we’ll hear the trees that grew still growing.
