Amy MacKay

la BEAST gallery is pleased to present Neither Land Nor Water, a solo exhibition by Los Angeles-based artist Amy MacKay. Her second solo exhibition with la BEAST continues a body of work based on a collaborative staging of Marina Carr’s By the Bog of Cats, an adaptation of the myth of Medea set in a remote Irish bog. Moving between representation and abstraction, clarity and ambiguity, MacKay’s layered oil paintings draw from the memories of performers and participants, documentation of the event, and the shifting spaces of the performance itself, treating the reenactment as a living, poetic archive in which record is continually reshaped.
