Alison Blickle

Kravets Wehby Gallery is pleased to present Future Ruins, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Alison Blickle. This new body of work is set in a universe where nature as we know has gone extinct. Characters from virtual reality, who have only heard of flora and fauna, step into the natural world for the first time completely unequipped for what's to come. The beauty of both the figures and the landscapes is uncanny. While processing their picturesque surroundings, glittery tears fall as their longing for connection remains unsatiated. Even their wildest expectations could not prepare them for the surrealist landscapes of Alison's imagined world. Alison's evocative and cerebral scenes are everlasting memories in the making for these women.

Alison's technique is incredibly traditional. She starts with a hand drawn grid and then a monotone underpainting, much the way of a Renaissance or Old Master painter. Her images come from photoshoots she stages with models and friends and then embellishes with Al prompts to come up with the awkward yet realistic humanlike compositions. Her subject matter is both the subject and the technique. The paintings convey an almost realistic nostalgia, something akin to a futuristic ski vacation in the 1970's. Her effervescent compositions are yearning for a time that may never exist.

Alison Blickle (b. 1976) currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. She holds an MFA from Hunter College, NY. This is Alison's eighth solo exhibition at the gallery.
