Fetish: An object revered for its magical powers or because it is considered to be inhabited by a spirit.
Fetish, features figures, masks and fetishes from Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mali and Nigeria. Among the highlights are a Senufo kafigelejo Figure formerly in the collection of the artist Armand Arman; a Songye nkisi Figure from the collection of renowned art dealer Allan Stone and Kaka Figures from Maryland based collector Barry Hecht.
The mysterious and haunting presence of these artworks combined with their artistic merit is awe inspiring.
About Pace African & Oceanic Art
Carlo Bella , only the third Director in the gallery’s history, hails from Milan, Italy where his family of art dealers, artists and collectors fueled his love of art. In 1983 he graduated from NYU with a degree in political science and art history. A year later he joined Pace.
