The image and the object, like life itself, are contextual endeavors. Their meanings are articulated by a basic relationship to time and place. Most images and objects exist in the service of their context: they are meant to function accordingly. The advertisement advertises. The hammer hammers.

Sometimes it is that simple.

But what happens when the image is wrested from its context, deprived of the structures in which their worldly value was determined? What exists then, is an image out of time and out of place. What exists then, is a husk.

Of course, this empty shell can accrue new and different meanings. It proves capable of doing other sorts of work. Dormancy is, of course, also contextual.

The artists in "The Husk" create objects that exist in this fragile space between utility and death, between movement and stasis, between past and future. Theirs are deeply uncanny images, endlessly referencing what was never meant to be. They are the relics of a past not yet forgotten and a future not yet imagined. And we yearn for both.
