More from Marc Kokopeli on Gallop
For my first solo exhibition I thought it would be nice to present something about being indebted to your parents. I've decided to style this tradition in its most infantile moment, when 'Daddy' has just entered the lexicon. This personal change is partially due to an attempt to valet my muddled production, with nowhere else to turn except the employment / deployment of my Mother.
The seven photographs I've selected are from the many Kathleen directed for Committee for Children during 1990-1991. These were used in classrooms as educational models: in reenacting the ethical scenarios depicted, students would learn social skills such as empathy, collaboration, and conflict resolution. Some of these photographs feature my sister, my friends, and myself posing amid rearranged sections of our house in Seattle. During this period she also produced videos regarding drugs, sexual abuse, and violence--perhaps those are for another time.
