Toi et Moi is the first solo exhibition of Udomsak Krisanamis in France. Having lived and exhibited in the United States and Europe, the artist has absorbed these cultures before returning to Thailand, where he now lives and works. Since the late 1990s, he offers an aesthetic both abstract and imbued with popular references, exploring a form of visual and emotional attraction.

Udomsak Krisanamis composes his paintings by layering materials without hierarchy: papers, newspapers, cardboard, plywood, noodles, acrylic, ink... In this exhibition, all these materials are recycled and then transformed. They are valued not for their initial uses or sources but for their shape and color. The works, created with hypnotic precision, evoke networks or even musical scores, where round shapes, reminiscent of musical notes, constellations, or ornamental patterns, are highlighted. These circles are primarily searched for in texts, letters, and numbers. From the beginning of his career, Udomsak Krisanamis has created a connection with the languages he learns by striking out words he understands. From this technique emerged segmented drawings, used as backgrounds in his compositions. With this process, newspaper texts become lines and grids, rejecting any linear narrative in favor of an intuitive and meditative reading.

A music lover and passionate about figures like Frank Zappa, famous for his improvisations, Udomsak Krisanamis also creates spontaneously and with feeling. He claims a romantic sensitivity, nourished by iconic American rock and pop songs. Naturally, he creates his works without prior planning, by doing what he loves until they make sense to him, bringing importance back to formal beauty. By bringing his personal references and passions into the exhibition, the artist invites us to discover his personality and shares the pleasures of his daily life. The titles of his works and exhibitions, as well as the choice of vinyl present in the space, refer to songs or films from popular culture, thus bridging his Thai and Western influences. Through this approach, he reaffirms abstraction as a universal language.

The title Toi et Moi suggests a closeness with the visitor, a direct relationship that unfolds over time spent in the exhibition. This approach also evokes the game of seduction, the challenge of dialogue, the pleasure of taking the initiative, and entering someone else's world. The exhibition invites visitors to dive into a space where the beauty of forms and objects becomes an open door to reflection, but above all to the joy of a shared moment. Entry is on a red carpet, as if each of us could have an important role in participating in this exhibition. Visitors can play the piano, listen to a vinyl, or improve their putting thanks to an installation blending mini-golf, games, music, and painting. More than mere contemplation, Toi et Moi is an invitation to interaction and conviviality. Through these simple and accessible gestures, Udomsak Krisanamis offers everyone an interactive experience, where art becomes a pretext for meeting. Prepaid postcards are made available to the public and sent by the gallery after each visitor writes a word, thought, or feeling to be shared with loved ones following their exhibition visit.

"Thought is the enemy of flow," a musical quote inscribed on the exhibition postcard, summarizes the mindset in which the artist wishes to immerse us: living fully, surrendering to spontaneity and the pleasure of the moment. Thus, Udomsak Krisanamis invites us on a journey where we can take time to appreciate beauty in the simplest moments.

Toi et moi est la première exposition individuelle d’Udomsak Krisanamis en France. Après avoir vécu et exposé aux États-Unis et en Europe, l’artiste s’est imprégné de ces cultures avant de retourner en Thaïlande, où il vit et travaille désormais. Depuis la fin des années 1990, il propose une esthétique à la fois abstraite et imprégnée de références populaires, explorant ainsi une forme d’attraction visuelle et émotionnelle.

Udomsak Krisanamis compose ses tableaux en superposant des couches de matériaux sans hiérarchie : papiers, journaux, cartons, contre-plaqué, nouilles, acrylique, encre... Dans cette exposition, tous ces matériaux sont recyclés, puis transformés. Ils sont appréciés non pour leurs usages initiaux ou leur source, mais pour leur forme et leur couleur. Les œuvres, réalisées avec une précision hypnotique, évoquent des réseaux ou encore des partitions musicales, où sont mises en avant des formes rondes, rappelant des notes de musique, des constellations ou des motifs ornementaux. Ces ronds sont principalement recherchés dans les textes, les lettres et les chiffres. Dès le début de sa carrière, Udomsak Krisanamis crée un lien avec les langues qu’il apprend en barrant les mots qu’il comprend. De cette technique ont émergé des dessins segmentés, utilisés comme arrière-plan dans ses compositions. Avec ce processus, les textes des journaux deviennent lignes et grilles, rejetant toute narration linéaire au profit d’une lecture intuitive et méditative.

Amateur de musique et passionné par des figures comme Frank Zappa, célèbre pour ses improvisations, Udomsak Krisanamis crée lui aussi avec spontanéité et ressenti. Il revendique une sensibilité romantique, nourrie par les chansons emblématiques du rock et de la pop américaine. C’est naturellement qu’il réalise ses œuvres sans prévoir à l’avance, en faisant ce qu’il aime, jusqu’à ce que celles-ci fassent sens pour lui, redonnant de l’importance à la beauté formelle. En apportant ses références personnelles et ses passions dans l’exposition, l’artiste nous propose de découvrir sa personnalité et nous partage les plaisirs de son quotidien. Les titres de ses œuvres et expositions, tout comme le choix de vinyles présents dans l’espace, font référence à des chansons ou des films issus de la culture populaire, tissant ainsi un pont entre ses influences thaïlandaises et occidentales. Par cette approche, il réaffirme l’abstraction comme un langage universel.

Le titre Toi et moi suggère une proximité avec le visiteur, une relation directe qui se dessine au fil du temps passé dans l’exposition. L’entrée se fait sur un tapis rouge, comme si chacun d’entre nous pouvait avoir un rôle important dans la participation à cette exposition. Les visiteurs peuvent jouer du piano, écouter un vinyle ou perfectionner leur putting grâce à une installation mêlant mini-golf, jeux, musique et peinture. Plus qu’une simple contemplation, Toi et moi est une invitation à l’interaction et à la convivialité. Par ces gestes simples et accessibles, Udomsak Krisanamis offre à chacun une expérience interactive, où l’art devient un prétexte à la rencontre. Des cartes postales affranchies sont mises à disposition du public, puis envoyées par la galerie, après que chacun ait écrit un mot, une pensée ou son ressenti avec ses proches suite à sa visite de l’exposition.
