Surrealism: Unusual Supports
Sep 4 – Oct 10, 2024
Victor Brauner, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dali, Marcel Duchamp, Alberto Giacometti, Joan Miro, Francis Picabia
The works on show reflect the interest of the movement's major artists in unusual media and techniques.
From Joan Miro's goat skins to Victor Brauner's plaster face sculpted on a wooden panel, to Alberto Giacometti's ballpoint pen-drawn human heads on newspaper, Surrealism: Automatism, Dream and Unconsciousness highlights the Surrealists' desire to use a variety of media to nourish the imagination.
The exhibition also looks at the wealth of techniques that characterize Surrealism. Francis Picabia's masterpiece Harmas is a perfect example of his famous Transparency technique...
