"It has become commonplace and tempting to reduce our identities into their simplest forms — to find a single root to blame or cherish. The fact that each of us is uniquely made up of an untraceable multitude of influences is not normally helpful or productive.

Painting — and even more so, drawing — offers an opportunity to untangle ourselves, or to offer up the ingredients of our own deconstructed salad, reconstituted for inspection.

Henry Curchod (b. 1992, Palo Alto, USA) lives and works in London. He received his BFA from the University of New South Wales in 2014.

Solo exhibitions of his work have been held at Clearing, New York, USA; Gallery Vacancy, Shanghai, China; Gallery Vacancy at Paris Internationale, Paris, France; Shoot the Lobster, New York, USA; and Mamoth, London, UK.

His work has been included in group exhibitions at Gallery Vacancy, Shanghai, X Museum, Shanghai, China; Jan Kaps, Cologne, Germany; and Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide.

Henry Curchod’s work belongs to the collections of X Museum, Beijing; Start Museum, Shanghai; Sifang Art Museum, Nanjing; Dangxia Foundation, Beijing; Tiantai Museum of Art, Qingdao; M Woods Museum, Beijing, China and Nixon Collection, London, UK.

Curchod has received awards from the Art Gallery of South Australia (Ramsay Art Prize, 2023), and the Art Gallery of New South Wales (Sulman Prize, 2023, 2014)
