Sophie Klafter: Corporeality

Sophie Klafter is a photographer who has spent the past three years creating a series of portraits of people with physical differences and limitations. Ms. Klafter was born with a neuromuscular disorder herself. Her photographs portray the strength it takes to get through life with an “imperfect” body. She believes that these people are too often misjudged solely by their appearance; being ignored, or even worse, seen as spectacles. Through her art she hopes to make those who are able-bodied more comfortable with and compassionate towards those with differences. Klafter’s intimate portraits, printed on a large scale, are accompanied by text about her subjects, giving life to their personalities and their true stories of capability and perseverance. The artist’s goal is to give the viewer the experience of their corpoReality.

Nicolas Touron: Artificial Moment

Nicolas Touron is a storyteller, and like a gifted one of the oral tradition, he enhances and embellishes his tales each time they’re told. As an artist he creates engaging and complex work in both painting and sculpture that, through concepts of movement, evolution, characters, and motifs, suggest larger narratives.Departing from traditional approaches, Touron’s stories never have specific beginnings or ending, and in this way become visual embodiments of the living process of storytelling.

Ian Trask: Blister Pact

Ian Trask’s newest installation, Blister Pact, is an examination of the materialistic culture in which we live. There’s a product for every purpose, and a package for every product. The rapid obsolescence of technologies and designs leaves behind innumerable forms, detached from both their intended function and meaning with the passage of time. Plastic blister packs are the cast-off ghostly impressions of those forgotten forms.
